OBSESSIVE-COMPULSIVE DISORDER IN CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS

Abstract
Until recently, obsessive-compulsive disorder was an- unfamiliar disorder in the field of child psychiatry. Obsessive-compulsive disorder appears in children virtually. in the same form as in adults. Washing, grooming arid checking rituals and /or preoccupation with- disease, danger and doubt ac-count for the majority of patients. Specific treatments typically include psychotherapy, pharmacotherapy and behavioural therapy. Further progress in treatment is dependent on a more complete understanding of the natural history of obsessive-compulsive disorder.
